about us

Midlands Specialist Centre

My practice is situated in the town of Howick, which lies in the heart of the Natal Midlands.

Howick is a small town located in the uMgungundlovu District of KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa.  The town is 1050 m above sea level, and about 88 kilometres from the port city of Durban.  It enjoys warm summers and cool dry winters. A snappy chill descends upon Howick when snow falls on the nearby Drakensberg during our winter months.

The town is located on the N3 freeway, connecting it conveniently with the rest of South Africa.  The town is the location of the Howick Falls, which is a large waterfall that occurs when the Umgeni River falls 95 metres (311 feet) over dolerite cliffs on its way to the Indian Ocean.  The Natal Midlands is one of the most beautiful and picturesque parts of South Africa, with plenty to do and lots to offer.

During your pre or post surgery time, there are so many things to do and see. We have the Midmar dam just 5kms out of town as well as Albert Falls Dam 30 minutes away. These venues are ideal for the keen Fishermen, sailors and bird watchers.

For the History enthusiasts, the battlefields of the Anglo Boer/Anglo Zulu war are a short drive from Howick.  Guided tours can easily be organized either privately, or through the practice.  Why not check out the Midlands Meander on line when you can.

Why should I come to Howick ?

The reasons are endless.  Apart from the beauty of the area, we like the fact that the practice is away from the “Big Cities”.  We are therefore afforded the opportunity of offering a more personal and private touch to the surgery that you might undergo.

We pride ourselves on our personal, yet professional approach to our patients, and we relish the opportunity of taking care of the smaller details of your stay with us, so often overlooked by some of the big “mainstream” practices.

We like the fact that that we can offer you someone to deal with your queries or concerns either before or after surgery.  Whether you are considering aesthetic or reconstructive surgery, I insist that you be treated with the utmost respect and compassion along every step of the way.

Shannon Morrissey

Shannon is an integral part of our team. She has a warm, friendly and efficient way of dealing with your concerns, coordinating the diary and going out of her way to help you.

Sister Monika Fricke

Sister Fricke has been a part of my practice team since 2007.  Being theatre trained and having worked with numerous plastic surgeons both home and abroad, Monika has not only a wonderful and in-depth understanding of the surgical procedures, but of the associated recovery process that follows.

For this reason, Monika oversees the wound care of the patients post operatively and is a valuable and integral part of my team.

Mrs. Vicky Glutz

Vicky trained initially as a beauty therapist but now runs the Laser clinic. She uses her past experience in the field of health and beauty to advise on treatments and products that best suit your personal needs.

Mr. Michael Schoenfeld

Mike is my father, practice manager, handy man and mentor.  He is also a qualified chartered accountant, and therefore responsible for all financial aspects associated with the practice.
